When a business is founded on a passion for service, an entrepreneurial spirit and the drive to solve a problem, you just know there’s a great story behind it. We couldn’t be more excited to be along for the ride with Guardian Tracking as they transform employee performance measurement – one industry at a time.

Guardian Tracking began solely as a tool for law enforcement professionals, then naturally branched out to include all of public safety (Fire, EMS and 911 communications centers).

The company’s business model — and its proprietary software — are built on the premise that timely and relevant information, delivered in a consistent format, is key to helping organizations streamline personnel management. Ultimately, this leads to higher employee satisfaction, lower turnover, increased retention, increased productivity and lower costs as a result.

Recently, Guardian Tracking saw the need to automate their marketing efforts. That’s where we come in! Guardian Tracking reached out to Webolutions in Denver, CO for strategic guidance and support on creating engaging lead nurturing and customer journeys with Infusionsoft.

At Webolutions, we couldn’t be more thrilled to team up with Guardian Tracking. We saw this partnership as an organic fit, especially since both companies place high value on brand experience at every touch point. The proof was in the pudding when we found out that co-founder Mike Reed makes time to personally call every single one of their 1,000 clients each year to check in!

Where It All Began…

After decades on the Indiana police force, two officers and friends decided they’d spend their retirement helping to solve a problem they encountered nearly every day as police officers.

In the early 90s, colleagues and friends Leon Wasilewski and Mike Reed saw first-hand the ineffectiveness of employee performance evaluations that did not include timely feedback, formal training and proper counseling and guidance. They also noticed the inconsistency with documentation and processes among departments.

Yet, the problem wasn’t unique to their agency – almost all precincts encountered these issues. Leon and Mike served as assessors for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and noted the commonalities that existed at nearly all agencies in the U.S.

Soon after they identified the need for improvement, they tried several approaches to fix this problem while at the Anderson Police Department. However, both costly commercial platforms and homegrown software weren’t making the cut when it came to employing an all-inclusive, reliable, transparent and objective tool. Additionally, it wasn’t being adopted like they’d hoped.

Without wavering to defeat, the two lieutenants kept at it for years. And in early 2007, as luck would have it, Leon connected with talented software developer Nick Riggs to propose the build out of a platform that would record and maintain employee performance documentation. He also shared his vision of a smart software that would flag potential behavior patterns during evaluation and intervention. While Leon shared his and Mike’s grand dreams with Nick, he had one other requirement for the software: To be affordable.

One week later, Guardian Tracking was born.

Breaking New Ground

Earlier this year, the company was contacted by a champion user of the software, Emily Abshire, who was inspired by the positive impact Guardian Tracking has on organizations and their relationships with employees. Coincidentally, GT was already eyeing the healthcare industry as a growth target. Naturally, she was brought on as new sales associate to manage healthcare segment.

Within a couple of months of the new program launching, Guardian Tracking has brought on a hospital and has plans to focus on smaller, privately owned facilities, including assisted living, nursing homes, stand-alone urgent care facilities and more.

How GT Moves Organizations Forward

One of the things that sets Guardian Tracking apart from competitors is the ability to record positive events and interactions so that reviews don’t only focus on the negative. When organizations experience the shift to a positive mindset, they discover how to detect issues proactively and see a constructive improvement in conflict resolution processes for all parties involved.

Additionally, here are some other reasons we think Guardian Tracking stands out:

  • Implements positive reinforcement techniques
  • Utilizes early intervention practices
  • Promotes a respectful and accountable working environment
  • Improves company culture
  • Increases employee performance
  • Recognizes both high and low performing employees
  • Improves timely resolutions of employee misconduct
  • Aids in professional development tracking

Power Users

Not only does Guardian Tracking create and implement employee performance management software for police departments and other agencies across the United States, they use it themselves!

As a remote workforce, using their own platform upholds a positive culture comprised of accountability balanced with flexibility. Communication is also key in the business’ success, as video conferencing and Slacking keep everyone focused and aligned on goals, projects and, above all, customer satisfaction. The company has bi-annually meetings planned at the two to trade shows they travel to each year, with team building events and company excursions planned, too.

Let The Good Times Roll

As an Infusionsoft Certified Partner, it’s an exciting time to support Guardian Tracking and bring their marketing automation strategy to life by way of lead nurturing, client retention and referral marketing. And while this story has been a good one so far, it still feels like the journey has only just begun.

There weren’t many 4×4 guidebooks available back in 1994 when Chuck Wells first started four-wheeling. He had purchased every guide book available on the market and none of them were cutting the mustard. He had just bought his first Jeep Grand Cherokee and was having a ball exploring the Colorado backcountry. As he traveled around using the books, he kept thinking of ways the books could be better. One day, armed with detailed notes and photos from his trips, he sat down and sketched out a few pages of what he thought a guide should be. He had no idea, however, how to turn that idea into a commercial product.

When he was younger he made a living as a graphic designer but had moved away from designing into management. During that time graphic design had completely changed. He had friends who were still working in the design field and they helped guide Chuck to buy and learn new tools.

Working nights and weekends, it took two years to complete the first book. It was during that time that FunTreks was conceived. Chuck took his completed 268-page digital file to a local printer and essentially placed a $6,000 bet that the books would sell. After the books were printed, he loaded up his car and headed for mountain towns like Ouray and Silverton, around which many of the trails were located. He simply walked into stores, introduced himself and showed the book. To his surprise, many store owners placed multiple-case orders on the spot. In most situations, he walked out with a check in his pocket. He quickly found himself returning to Colorado Springs for more books. FunTreks was officially born!

Within a short time, he had a distributor who sold his books to Barnes & Noble and other big stores. His first printing of 4,000 sold out in a couple of months. He was running home on his lunch hour and packing 20 to 30 cases for the UPS driver. His garage was his warehouse. Entrepreneurial spirit at its finest!

It wasn’t long before Chuck’s day job started getting in the way of his FunTreks job. With great trepidation, he cut ties and went on his own. More than 20 years later, FunTreks is still going strong and they are very excited for the future. FunTreks is now a team and they love what they do!

FunTreks, Meet Webolutions

FunTreks came to Webolutions looking to integrate their current product offerings to create a more robust offering and better engagement overall with their community. They also wanted help figuring out a way to gather trail updates from the FunTreks community. Of course, they wanted to sell more products, but their main focus was getting their community more engaged.

We came up with some fun solutions that would help drive engagement of their rugged 4×4 community.

The website design includes elements their particular community would respond well to.

  • Big beautiful images of the trails – HUGE shout out to the FunTreks team for taking stunning, unique images of each of the individual trails. This has a huge impact on the look and feel of the entire website!
  • Simple main navigation hitting the 4 most important items their community will be looking for (trails, products, resources, blog)
  • Simple and clean content blocks driving users right to the trail difficulty level of their choosing and most popular product categories
  • Tire track design elements
  • Cool hover effects
  • Fun animations – small details that make the website stand out from the crowd

One of the most important aspects of this site and the FunTreks community are the trails. We wanted to do something unique to showcase the beautiful trails.

For the trails we did a couple cool things:

  • Created an interactive trail search. The user can search by state, by vehicle type or trail difficulty. Results are viewed in a map view and the trail cards are listed below the map.
  • On the individual trail pages, we wanted to provide good, useful information (vehicle types with fun animation detail, overview of the trail, rating information, stats, current conditions)
  • Each trail also has the opportunity to display a relevant product
  • Since we wanted to get user driven feedback on the trails, we created a few ways for folks to submit trail updates.

To increase community engagement we came up with some simple solutions:

  • Trail reviews – On each trail users can submit a review. It is also available on every page in the website in the utility navigation.
  • Trail updates – Users can submit a trail update so other FunTreks community members can see the latest trail conditions from folks who have actually driven on the trails recently. This is really important as trail conditions can change due to weather, traffic and other circumstances. To date they’ve already had 17 unique trail updates submitted by users of the website!
  • Recommend a new trail – Users can submit new trails to the FunTreks team to explore and provide more information on – for the website and / or guidebooks.
  • Trail updates newsletter – we suggested regular communication with the community. We created a sign up form and helped them brainstorm some content ideas that their users would be interested in. To date they have over 300 people sign up for this! WOW!

Thank you FunTreks for allowing us to help you create more engagement with your enthusiastic community! Consider us FunTreks community members for life!

At Webolutions, we have had the pleasure of working with People Element and helping them evolve and grow their story. Part of that evolution was a full rebranding, including a name change.

Who They Are:

People Element, formerly Strategic Programs, is in the people business – driving employee engagement in organizations to help them achieve business goals. While many of their competitors may only focus on once aspect of the employee lifecycle, such as exit interview data, People Element is dedicated to the full employee lifecycle and getting to the answers behind the data. Working in a wide variety of industries, including healthcare and trucking, People Element delivers employee engagement strategies that help create meaningful organizational change.

How They Build Employee Engagement:

For People Element, it is more than just the data.  Their team takes it a step further and is willing to roll up their sleeves by understanding what the data actually means to employee engagement and retention. With their unique approach, they:

  • Develop comprehensive engagement and retention strategies
  • Understand client specific goals and objectives
  • Increase Retention, Engagement, Customer Satisfaction, and Productivity
  • Decrease Turnover
  • Improve Onboarding
  • Establish measurable baselines and specific goals
  • Provide analysis, guidance and direction based on results tracked via real-time listening
  • Provide insight on opportunities for further employee life cycle improvement

At the end of the day, they take time to understand client business goals, focus on the full employee lifecycle and get to the heart of what the data means – blending both art and science. This allows them to provide actionable insights to their clients that leads to better engagement and stronger organizations.

How They Make a Difference in the Community

People Element is involved with several charitable groups, but one in particular is close to their hearts: Dress For Success. Dress For Success helps empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and life.

Over the holiday season, the People Element team organized a clothing drive and donated gently used professional attire to Dress for Success’s local Denver chapter.

In addition to their work with Dress for Success, they helped provide donated items for Access Housing, an organization focused on helping families facing homelessness achieve self-sufficiency.

And, if that were not enough, their generosity and time also extended to hospitalized children. The team at People Element spent time creating holiday cards for children who would have to spend the holidays in the hospital – helping spread cheer in a rather cheerless place.

Random Fact About People Element

When they are not providing employee engagement insights and strategies, the team at People Element engage in lively debate. And, not just any debate. It is a debate about desserts.

That’s right, in the hallways of People Element you will find ongoing banter about pie versus cake. Or, as one employee put it, “A debate on the ongoing superiority of cake over pie.” You be the judge!

What We are Doing

After we completed their market positioning, rebranding and website, we engaged in ongoing marketing. As People Element’s marketing partner, we are continuing to help them tell their story. We are currently helping them with search engine optimization, content strategy, marketing automation, lead generation and nurturing campaigns, as well as online marketing.
