Welcome to the first blog post of the new year in our Making It in the Inbox in 2019 series! We thought we’d give you a warm welcome with this blog post on engaging and welcoming your audience. After all, building a great relationship with your audience starts with a great first impression. Here’s how!
After someone signs up to receive email communications, sending an email right away is critical for engaging prospects and customers at the beginning of your relationship. An immediate, automated email is ideal (and not at all difficult to set up), but if you can’t make that happen, don’t wait more than 24 hours to reach out to new contacts. This sets up an expectation that your customers and prospects will hear from you via email. Many times, this email (or series of emails) can be a first impression someone has with your brand. Or, it can reinforce an emotional interaction a person has with your brand. So be sure to pay extra attention to the lead source and relevant content — copy, images and call(s) to action — for a memorable impact. When in doubt: Don’t overthink it. Keep emails simple with a clear, unique message that guides the subscriber to the action you want him/her to take.
While sending one Welcome Email is common, an automated series of Welcome Emails over a reasonable period of time is an easy technique to keep your new subscribers highly engaged. Leverage this opportunity to bring other marketing channels into the mix. For example, the second email in the series could focus on getting subscribers to connect with your brand’s social media communities or it could spotlight your company’s blog, directing traffic to your site.
